DDDBrisbane 2014 wrapup

Saturday the 6th of December we held our 4th DDDBrisbane event. Each year we have grown the number of attendees and this year we had to step up to bigger rooms.

The morning started early getting everything in place, ready for the eager attendees to check in. The crowd were placated with the offer of free coffee.

It was amazingly quick and orderly to check in 250 attendees on one iPad (and lunch was similarly civil). John did a GoPro time-lapse for those that are skeptical.

There was a bit of trick to getting the name tags to stay in those pesky covers and we had lots of helpers for that.

Damian opened the day with a brief history and some logistics.

And we were straight into our keynote by Paul Stovell who has a great local success story with Octopus Deploy and one of our generous sponsors and supporters.

Of course the day isn’t complete without our speakers who give up their Saturday to share their passion with the attendees. All the speakers are voted by the public. I love this part of DDD – you get what you ask for. So a massive thanks to all our speakers:

Lunch was upon us and this year we opted for catering. I must say this did take a load of work off us. Not having to run out and fetch 10 platters of subway, 50 pizzas and lots of sushi from all different venues made lunch quiet chilled.

The caterers did a great job ensuring the supplies were kept up and the food hot.

Of course our event would not run without the generosity of our sponsors. Many of them attended on the day to mingle with the attendees.

To close out the day we had the prize giveaways where many sponsors kindly donated licenses for their products and our major prize of an XBox One that made for one happy attendee

Another great event and of course it wouldn’t run without all the efforts of those that helped prepare and help on the day. Big thanks to Damian who puts endless hours into making the day a success!

Also a big shoutout to David Cook, Brendan and Lin Kowitz, Crystal GilbertJohn and the QUT Student volunteers for your help on the day.
