Today we did a short presentation (20 mins or so) at the eScience Revolution Briefing at QUT Gardens Point Campus. It was very different to demo Virtual Earth and SQL Spatial to what I assume to be not necessarily a technical crowd with a decent proportion who had never heard of the product. I think the demonstrations went ok..and gave us some good groundwork for our UG tour next year.
Jorke did a preso on Photosynth and Seadragon..I never get sick of seeing that stuff..it’s just so cool.
Afterwards, we popped into Mix on Campus so say hello to a couple of people. We were there while the career session was on and it was interesting to listen to. I found the section where one company pretty much said they wouldn’t be using Silverlight until everyone else was..which they believed to be 2-3 years down the track. Although I applaude them for their honesty, I must say, if i were a student looking for potential places to work, they’d probably go the bottom of my list. As a student (and even now as not a student), the thought of no prospect of working on latest and greatest would be a big factor in applying for a job.
